چکیده

Supply chains are going to evolve by a new technology, which is called the Electronic Product Code (EPC) technology, based on radio frequency identification (RFID). This provides new opportunities in automatic identification that none of previous technologies offered. It also appears to have the potential to enhance Efficient Consumer Response (ECR), which is a grocery industry supply chain management initiative, by not only making ECR and its enablers more efficient but also facilitating their implementation. Through the use of a conceptual study, this paper explores how the EPC technology can further improve the efficiency of product replenishment employing crossdocking approach, which is a typical efficient replenishment strategy proposed by ECR. Besides enhancing the efficiency of cross docking operation, the study demonstrates that the EPC technology has the potential to improve the balance of the distribution of costs, benefits, and risks of cross-docking operation among supply chain participants. This in turn has the potential to remove one of the main barriers to ECR adoption.

Designing a multi-objective nonlinear cross-docking location allocation model using genetic algorithm

In this study, a cross-docking system is designed at strategic and tactical levels. For making the strategic decisions, a multi-objective nonlinear location allocation model for cross-docks is presented based on a distri-bution location allocation model by Andreas Klose and Andreas Drexl. The model is further developed to in-clude the whole supply chain members and the objective functions are w...

Developing a cross-docking network design model under uncertain environment

Cross-docking is a logistic concept, which plays an important role in supply chain management by decreasing inventory holding, order packing, transportation costs and delivery time. Paying attention to these concerns, and importance of the congestion in cross docks, we present a mixed-integer model to optimize the location and design of cross docks at the same time to minimize the total transpo...

Location-Allocation and Scheduling of Inbound and Outbound Trucks in Multiple Cross-Dockings Considering Breakdown Trucks

This paper studies multiple cross-dockings where the loads are transferred from origins (suppliers) to destinations (customers) through cross-docking facilities. Products are no longer stored in intermediate depots and incoming shipments are consolidated based on customer demands and immediately delivered to them to their destinations. In this paper, each cross-docking has a covering radius tha...

Optimal design of cross docking supply chain networks with time-varying uncertain demands

This paper proposes an integrated network design model for a post-distribution cross-docking strategy, comprising multi product production facilities with shared production resources, capacitated cross docks with setup cost and customer zones with time windows constraints. The model is dynamic in terms of time-varying uncertain demands, whereas uncertainty is expressed with scenario approach an...

New Approaches in Metaheuristics to Solve the Truck Scheduling Problem in a Cross-docking Center

Nowadays, cross-docking is one of the main concepts in supply chain management in which products received to a distribution center by inbound trucks which are directly to lead into outbound trucks with a minimum handling and storage costs as the main cost of a cross-docking system. According to the literature, several metaheuristics and heuristics are attempted to solve this optimization model....
